ASHES-2005
DID ENGLAND REALLY WIN ???
The 2005 Ashes series was that year’s edition of the long-standing and storied cricket rivalry between England and Australia. Starting on 21 July 2005, England and Australia played five tests, with the Ashes held by Australia as the most recent victors. The final result was a 2–1 series win for England, who succeeded (for the first time since 1987) in their biennial attempt to win the urn.
Marcus Trescothick, the then England captain has finally revealed the truth in his new autobiography, “Coming Back To Me”, in which he said that his main job on the field was to shine the ball with breath fresheners. This act actually led him to depression and later quitting from international cricket.
Trescothick said that he had picked up a preference for “Murray Mints”, which are known to have a devastating effect on the on-swing and reverse-swing of the ball.
Trescothick wrote in the News of the World “It had been a common knowledge in county cricket for sometime that certain sweets produce saliva which, when applied to the ball causes the ball to swing a lot and for a longer time”.
Last year Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan was laughed upon by the England media and players, when the former found “Jelly Babies” sweets on the field, saying that the player was being extremely fussy about the issue. Now we know what would have been the ultimate motive behind the sweets on the field.
Guess the founder’s of the game also found ways to crack through it …..
